WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT
FORESIGHT'S COUNSELING ORIENTATIONAt times, counseling can be uncomfortable, even downright scary. In order to accomplish change, you must press on through those periods to realize the benefits and, as you undergo change, you will automatically have an impact on those with whom you have close relationships. Counseling does not guarantee that things will be better. Some might not welcome your growth and healing due to their own personal issues and might react toward you in disappointing and even hurtful ways.
The general purpose of counseling is to relieve the unnecessary stress and discomfort of the issues specified by you. This can be achieved by using various therapeutic approaches. Foresight uses both Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Design Focused Therapy. Together, these address the lies, deceptions, misinformation, ignorance, and destructive behaviors we brought into adulthood. The more influential a relationship is, the more likely we are to have irritation in it because relationships act like mirrors, revealing issues hidden deep within our soul. A professional counselor can help us identify and correct our behaviors, conscious and unconscious beliefs, attitudes, and expectations which do not conform to reality (how men and women were designed to relate) which have been acting as road blocks to the life we desire. Foresight’s counseling will often follow this three-step approach:
Clarifying - the problem to make it understandable. Confusion can make an issue appear intimidating or even impossible to conquer.
Identifying - repetitive patterns which do not conform to how we as individuals and our relationships were designed to function reveals root causes so that counseling can have a narrower focus while providing benefits in multiple areas. Treating symptoms only – known as "Band-Aid therapy" – results in temporary and less fruitful therapy.
Conforming - Many of us did not have the benefit of learning the right way to make relationships work when we were growing up. Testing old beliefs, assumptions, rules, and expectations against how we and relationships were designed to operate exposes the errors and deceptions which hold us prisoner in repetitive self-defeating behaviors. Bringing our life into harmony with our design releases us from a painful past that repeats itself, and offers us lasting peace and happiness.
Foresight offers new clients two counseling options:
counseling that DOES NOT emphasize Bible directives for their life but might sometimes reference biblical wisdom, principles, or stories; and counseling that DOES emphasize Bible directives.
