What should you look for in a Christian professional counselor?
We are complex creatures, and the task of helping unravel the complex into its simpler component parts benefits from someone with experience and training. Below are some general questions that deserve a "yes" answer.
Is the therapist accountable to any professional, national, or local government agency or regulating body?
Are there no unresolved complaints against the therapist?
Is the focus of his/her education specific to counseling, or at least emphasizes counseling?
Does he/she use Biblical principles, admonitions, standards, values, and directives as the foundation of therapy as opposed to cultural and personal?
Does he/she admit to areas in which others could better help you?
Is the working of Christ – the fruit of the Spirit – evident in the life of the counselor?
